Biography

His Excellency Mr. Dan Bahadur Tamang assumed his assignment as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Nepal to the Republic of South Africa on 14 March 2023. Prior to his Ambassadorial appointment, he was the immediate past President of Nepal Volleyball Association from 2011to 2015.

Mr. Tamang was actively involved in Nepal’s politics in his 50s. He was nominated as a candidate to contest in the 2nd Constituent Assembly elections held in 2013 from constituency 5 of Chitwan district, Nepal, and ranked 2nd in terms of total votes cast.

Also, he has spent over a decade working in financial sector in Nepal. He was Chairman of Suryadarshan Finance Company (C class financial institution) from 2007 to 2012 and a member of the Board of Directors of Supreme Development Bank (B Class national development bank) from 2012 to 2017.

Besides, he has had a rich experience of working in Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in varying capacities. He has worked in Save the Children Fund (UK), a maternal child health project, as Project Manager for 3 years, and in American Peace Corps/Nepal for over half a decade, last two years as Project Director. He was also involved in teaching profession following his graduation in public administration from Tribhuvan University, Institute of Management, Kathmandu, Nepal in 1982.

In addition, Mr. Tamang has a long experience in overseas employment business. He was Managing Director for a company dealing with foreign employment for one and a half decade, sending over 20000 Nepali workers in the Middle East, Hong Kong, USA, Japan and Malaysia. During this period, he was elected President of Nepal Association of Foreign Employment Agencies (NAFEA) for three consecutive terms.
In the past, he was engaged in many social activities, helping the poor, underprivileged and needy individuals and communities in different parts of the country. His social works include building class rooms, toilets in 22 schools as well as providing safe drinking water to many other primary schools, donating an ambulance to the community, helping poor patients and many students with their medical treatment/school fees, and so forth.

Ambassador Mr. Tamang was born in 1957. He is married to Mrs. Kalyani Tamang and has two sons: Mr. Satkar Tamang and Mr. Samardhan Tamang.
