Dr. Nirmal Kumar Bishokarma

Dr. Nirmal Kumar Bishokarma is the Ambassador of Nepal to South Africa. Dr. Bishokarma arrived in Pretoria, South Africa on April 8, 2021 to assume his post.

He was Member of Department of Foreign Affairs, Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) from April 2011 to August 2020. In this responsibility, he worked as Coordinator of desk responsible for United Kingdom as well as desk for Gulf and Arab countries. He was also member of Editorial Board of The New Era, English journal of the party.

Dr. Bishokarma also actively involved in High Level Committee of Government of Nepal such as a Member of Bhagat Sarbajit Manav Maryada Prize selection committee formed by Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation; responsible of selecting high personalities fighting for human dignity and social justice. He was also member for High-Level Advisory Committee for Nepal Education Sector Plan (2020-2030) formed by Ministry of Education, Science and Technology as well as involved in Climate Change National Adaptation Plan (NAP) preparation process for Ministry of Population and Environment; where in both cases he contributed in livelihoods, governance, gender and social inclusion aspects.

He had also working experience with the programme of UK Department for International Development (DFID) from April, 2000 to July, 2010 in Nepal. He had led/managed as well as gained professional knowledge and skills in the implementation of programme, administration and finance and policy influence in poverty reduction, natural resource management, disaster risk reduction and climate change, gender and social inclusion sector.

He has achieved a joint PhD Degree in 2016 from International Graduate School (IGS) Switzerland and Kathmandu University Nepal. His research focused on food security; food trade and aid, resource scarcity and marginalization. He had widely shared the findings of the research in international conferences held in United Kingdom, Philippines, Germany, Thailand, Switzerland, United States of America, Indonesia, Finland, Pakistan, Tanzania, Ivory Coast, Malaysia, South Africa, Bangladesh as well as published three articles in international peer reviewed journals.

Dr. Bishokarma has also received national awards Biddya Bhusan ‘’A” conferred by the President of Nepal.

H.E. Dr. Bishokarma was born in Kapilvastu district of Nepal in 1971. He is married to Mrs. Sanju Gotame Bishokarma and they have two daughters.
